Instead of traditional sculptures, Kari Cavén has found his niche in works made of discarded, recycled materials. He transforms scrap to art through a multidimensional process. His works are not only skilful material collages, but they are also given extra meaning by coincidences, playfulness and quiet humour. He adds autobiographical or broadly human elements to the recycled materials, guiding the viewers with the titles of the works.
Cavén graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in 1982. He began his career as a painter but after different experiments with materials he moved on to three-dimensional expression.
