Mark Raidpere depicts the human side of convicts.
Previously, Mark Raidpere worked as a fashion photographer but turned to art in 1997. In his works, he has dealt the themes of identity, marginalisation and segregation and the recent wave of homophobia which brushed the Estonian society.
His video for the ARS 06, 10 Men, deals with social segregation and abandonment. The artist’s camera is pointed at criminals and murderers incarcerated in prison. The picture quality reminiscent of Super-8 material and music box -like backing represent the wrongdoers in a sympathetic light. Anonymous prisoners get to pose as themselves without the burden of their criminal record.
