Là-bas biennial

Concept of performance

The title of this year’s international Là-bas biennial of performance art and new media is Concept of Performance.

Now in its second year, the biennial is a kaleidoscope of the latest in live art, with a programme bringing together a variety of experimental practices and their diverse performative spaces. Unfolding over five days, the programme includes performance, sound and video art, action poetry and a seminar event exploring different performative concepts. The time has now come to take a closer look at how the different forms of live art differentiate and intertwine and how they produce difference both instrumentally and in terms of perspective.

Kiasma is one of the main venues for the biennial, which also takes place across a number of locations in the centre of Helsinki as well as the University of Helsinki’s Ylioppilasteatteri theatre, Suvilahti, the Augusta gallery and Harakka island.

Là-bas is a live art project dating back to 2000, which seeks to give rise to non-hierarchical organisational structures and forms of networking in line with contemporary philosophical thought. As a forum, Là-bas is responsive, space-specific and without a fixed structure.
