Stories Behind Pictures

Jouko Lehtola’s photographs reveal concurrent yet very different realities from the past few decades in Finland. The large glossy pictures are comments on the indifference of the welfare society towards its weakest members, while other works showcase natural beauty, humour and brave individuals living their life. It is evident from the pictures that their subjects accepted the proximity of the photographer to their own world.

The artist’s partner Jaana Novitskij writes here about the background to and inspiration for the works and about the stories behind the pictures.
